Review: Skin Juice Citrus Day Cream

Today I bring you their citrus day cream, which is a beautiful cream designed for oilier skin types.

I have again been using this cream since I got my skin reviewed in January, but not as religiously as the Pulp cleansing paste. I bought this moisturizer to use as a day cream, to provide moisture without allowing my skin to get oily during the day, however I prefer to wear sunscreen, so this moisturizer got demoted to the one that I wear when going out at night, and when my skin is screaming for extra moisture (eg after my peel, when my skin was so very dry).

I was using the old formulation and LOVED it. I was however given the chance to try a mini version of the new formulation by Skin Juice, and I am not loving it as much. It still gives you the most amazing moisturisation with a matte finish. It still makes sure that it moisturizes my skin while ensuring that I do not turn into an oil slick at lunch time. The new formulation comes in a squeezy tube which is great, jars are so very unhygienic.

Why don't I love it as much then? The smell. The old version was a delightful incense smell. The new version smells like I am rubbing Sambucca on my face. It conjures up memories of grade 11 parties, drinking Sambucca when you are so drunk you don't actually know what you are drinking (come on, everyone has stories of a misspent youth!). Plus, for someone who dislikes liquorice greatly, this is quite unpleasant. Luckily the smell dissipates quite quickly, and it starts to turn back into its lovely incense-y self.

I don't know what to do now, because I love this moisturizer, but smell is pretty important when you are putting something really close to your nose! Those of you out there who love liquorice and have oily skin, I recommend that you try this, you will love it.

The old version, as featured in my October Empties post. I went through about 3 tubs of this.

The Micro Citrus Moisturizer was sent to me from Skin Juice for consideration. This has in no way influenced my review. For more information please read my disclosure statement.
