Review: Invisible Zinc UV Silk Shield Foundation

I have become a sunscreen nazi. I don't really know if it is a good thing or a bad thing. It is good for me, after getting a mole chopped out I am no longer going to risk any sun, at all, which means (hopefully) no cancer and less wrinkles. It is bad for everyone else, because I have now turned into one of those annoying mum's (except I am not a mum, I do it to my friends) who at the beach make you apply sunscreen so thickly that you look white and make you keep your bucket hat and rashie on even though no one else has too! Sigh, memories of my own mother there, and now I am turning into her, shitballs!
Anyways, as part of my new found sunscreen obsession, I now wear 30+ everyday, everywhere. I also wear a face moisturizer which contains 30+, and then Hissyfit tinted moisturizer (which is 30+). But, on the days when I need fuller foundation coverage, I was a little stuck. Sure, I know that layering the sunscreen doesn't really help, but I really wanted a foundation that had a high level of sun protection. And I found one! Invisible Zinc recently brought out their UV Silk Shield Foundation, and it is amaze-balls.

I am the "light" shade, which can also be used as an under-eye concealer for those lovelies who have darker skin than I
This is a stick foundation, but instead of being very thick and hard to apply, it is very smooth and feels quite liquid-y on your skin. The packaging recommends applying by swiping the stick on and blending with your fingers, as this assists 'self blending'. It certainly blends very very nicely using this method, so I haven't yet tried it with a brush.
The foundation contains 30+ in the form of Zinc Oxide, so it is a physical sunscreen blocker, perfect for a foundation as it doesn't have to react directly with your skin, and it reduces chemicals applied to your face. Winner!
This foundation just keeps getting better. It is medium to high coverage, cream to powder finish, but far from being matte, IZ claims that this foundation provides a lovely luminous 'fresh skin finish', and they don't lie! It honestly makes your skin just look better without looking like you caked on foundation. Plus, I don't - for the very first time in my life - need to apply translucent powder afterwards. It doesn't appear to slip, and my oil slick face doesn't take over either!
Plus, it also contains an environmental shield which provides protection from pollutants, as well as the UV filters.
As the foundation comes in a stick it is very portable, so perfect for days on the beach when you need some coverage after swimming. The foundation states that it is water resistant, but I haven't tried that out yet, so I would take it with you just in case!
One little issue that I have with the product is that it only comes in three shades, light, medium and dark. I am very pale and light suits me pretty well, but I am sure there will be some people out there who just won't be able to get a colour match.

I am in love. This little stick seems like it is going to be my winner foundation for summer. Come on the weekend, I want to try this baby out at the beach!

  1. I might try this, I'm super pale too and am in need of a foundation.
    Thanks for the recommendation!
